Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Dave Smith

Candidate for
City Council; City of La Mesa

This information is provided by the candidate

When considering the needs of any individual or group, a Member of City Council must take the broader view and consider the implications for the entire community. I believe that all citizens should have a voice in government. I also believe that Children and Seniors need an advocate at City Hall.

As a City Councilman I would seek the opinions of residents affected by a given issue, whether it is a Zoning Variance, a Business License, a Special Permit, Request for Stop Sign, or any other citizen issue. I would consider the recommendations of our citizen commissions-the Planning Commission, the Community Services Commission, the Commission on Aging, the Commission on Human Relations and others. These groups are comprised of some of our most respected and knowledgable residents. And I would seek the counsel of City Staff regarding legal, environmental and fiscal implications.

It is my sincere hope that, together with the other Members of City Council, we can make sound decisions that will:

  • Encourage economic opportunity
  • Keep our neighborhoods safe and secure
  • Preserve the character and integrity of our city

God willing, these decisions will make La Mesa a good place to live for years to come.
