Summary of Priorties

By Lou Fenton

Candidate for City Council; City of Oceanside

This information is provided by the candidate
A Brief Summary
  • I favor dealing fairly with sewer and water utility customers by setting fees based on actual costs. We must remember those with fixed incomes!

  • I favor an alternative resort proposal which preserves our park, our beach, our pier, our streets, and our ocean views. We must think of future generations!

  • I favor making all of El Corazón a public park with citizens in charge of its design and operation.

  • I favor an ongoing, city-wide beautification program which includes removing all billboards. A beautiful city means higher property values and more business for our local businesses.

  • I favor creating linear parks with bicycle paths and equestrian trails along the San Luis Rey River, Loma Alta Creek, and Buena Vista Creek. New parks would be paid for using existing revenues, donations, and grants.

  • I favor a complete, independent audit of Oceanside's finances including redevelopment.

  • I favor making Oceanside tourist and shopper friendly by reducing parking meters and pay parking lots. We must remember our local businesses!

  • I favor an improved library and city sponsored affordable day care.

  • I favor safe neighborhood mini-parks; safe, exciting skateboard parks; and a surfing reef south of the pier for beach protection.

  • I favor installing lighting for night-time surfing.

  • I favor separate facilities for jet-skis to reduce confilct with other boaters.

  • I favor moving the Pfleger Instute for Environmental Research from the crowded harbor to a more favorable location closer to public transportation and parking.
