A lot of very positive things have happened in Oceanside lately. To build on those positives and take our City to the next level, we need to have a shared vision for our future and then set a clear course or direction to achieve that goal.

Do we actually have a clear vision or direction at this time? I don't think so. Our current General Plan was written in 1975, and our Land Use Element was last comprehensively revised in 1986. There have been many substantial and fundamental changes in our City and the economy as a whole since then. I believe that we are overdue for an in-depth review and revision of our plan in order to keep up with the changing times.

Yet our Council and staff are still trying to make the gameplan of the 70's and 80's fit the needs of today. Our land use plan is being bent past the point of recognition to accommodate specific projects, and our neighborhoods are feeling betrayed by piecemeal "spot rezoning" across from their homes. I ask you: Is this current system working? With "buildout" fast approaching, our ultimate future as a City will be determined in the next few years. The time for vision is now!

To draft an effective and visionary new plan we will need input from the citizens of Oceanside. Community involvement is a must! I firmly believe that the City Council should seek out, listen to, and then acknowledge and respect public input as an important part of the decision making process. We all need to work together as we define and create the very future of Oceanside.

I will work hard to ensure that our public safety and traffic concerns are addressed as we lay out a new blueprint for our continuing growth and prosperity. With a reasonable and workable plan we can maintain control of how we allow ourselves to grow and still maintain strong revenues to be able to serve the needs of all of our citizens, from our youth to seniors and everyone in between.

I ask you to join your voice with mine in this call for a clear vision and direction for our City.

Vote for "A New Wave of Leadership".

Vote for Dr. Tom Brault for Oceanside City Council.

I want to work for you and work with you, because...

Together we can make great things happen for Oceanside!!
