Candidate for
Supervisor; County of Santa Cruz; Supervisorial District 2

This information is provided by the candidate

Dear Neighbor,

Our community is at a crossroads. Whether we live in Aptos, Corralitos, La Selva Beach, Rio del Mar, Seacliff, Watsonville or Capitola, we share common concerns of preserving the character and identity of our neighborhoods, maintaining the balance between rural and urban land and ensuring that our children and grandchildren have a safe and healthy place to live.

My family and I love living in Santa Cruz County. My husband, Terry Hancock, and I have lived in Aptos and La Selva Beach for over 16 years. Our four kids attend local schools, from Valencia to UCSC, and play on local sports teams. I am running for County Supervisor because we need a strong voice to preserve and improve the quality of life in this community. As Supervisor I will:

  • Prevent over-development and the loss of our prime agricultural land.

  • Work to fix our deteriorating roads and alleviate our traffic congestion.

  • Find rational solutions to the water aquifer overdraft problem, assuring that we have a sufficient water supply and that we live within our means.

  • Ensure that a third high school gets built to improve our children's education, but without creating an invitation to further residential development in the slough area.

  • Support the development of new parks and recreational opportunities for our children and improving facilities at our existing parks.

I have the professional skills it takes to be an effective advocate for our community. Currently, I am the Directing Attorney for Senior Citizens Legal Services, a nonprofit law office that provides free legal advice and representation to seniors. I believe it is important to stand up for the rights of the little guy against bureaucracies.

With your help we can find solutions to the challenges our community faces and keep Santa Cruz County the beautiful area that we have come to know and love.

Very Truly Yours, Ellen Pirie
