By Althea Polanski

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Milpitas Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Focus on Success is Milpitas Unified School District's evolving accountability program. We have developed 17 different methods to assess our 3 district goals: Continuous Improvement in Student Achievement; Teacher Performance; School Environment.
In implementing our district-wide goals, Focus on Success, I am committed to ensuring the success of all of our students. Everyone within the Milpitas educational community is working to ensure that these goals provide an accountability program to meet our student's needs.

Through the expertise of our Director of Research and Evaluation, we have developed seventeen (17) different methods to assess our three district goals:

  • Continuous Improvement in Student Achievement
  • Teacher Performance
  • School Environment

There are 11 instruments to monitor continuous improvement throughout the 14 schools in Milpitas. There are 2 distinct instruments to measure teacher performance and 4 instruments for the school environment.

Data for each of these indicators is being collected annually and will be reported to the community the Milpitas Post and local goernment cable access - Channel 15.

As a district, we will be presenting how other districts throught the State of California may implement this innovative program on Saturday, December 2, 2000 at the annual CSBA (California School Board's Association) Education Conference.

All of us are excited about the success we have achieved to date in meeting these goals and the accountability model we have developed.
