Pat Kolstad was born and lived his entire life in Santa Clara Valley. He is a Santa Clara resident and homeowner. He is married to his wife, Terri Silva Kolstad, and has two grown children, and one granddaughter.

Pat graduated from San Jose State University and joined the Santa Clara Police Department in 1969. He has worked for the Santa Clara Police Department for the past 31 years - serving the citizens of Santa Clara. His upcoming retirement from the Police Department will allow him the opportunity to continue to serve the community as a member of the Santa Clara City Council.

Pat is a natural leader who is frequently selected by his peers to leadership roles. Pat was President of the Santa Clara Police Officers Association in 1977 and President of the California Burglary and Theft Investigators Association in 1983. Pat was on the Board of Directors for the California Crime Prevention Officers Association from 1986-1990. He received their "Crime Prevention Officer of the Year Award" in 1989, was State President in 1990, and was awarded the Board of Directors "Life Achievement Award".

Pat's record of service to the community is unequaled. For his over fifteen years of service to the Santa Clara Unified School District, Pat received the California Congress of P.T.A.'s "Honorary Service Award" in 1990. Pat served as Director and Board Member of the Santa Clara Police Activities League.

Pat is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mission City Community Fund. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Rotary Club of Santa Clara and Santa Clarans for Political Integrity and Ethics. He is a member of Santa Clara Masonic Lodge #299 and the Portuguese American Club of Santa Clara County. Pat has volunteered his time to assist the Santa Clara Y.M.I., Santa Clara Women's League, Agnews Community Volunteer Services, Santa Clara Soroptimist Club, Santa Clara Woman's Club, Santa Clara Art & Wine Festival, and Triton Museum of Art.
