Candidate for
Director; El Camino Hospital District

This information is provided by the candidate

I was born and raised in the Greater New York City area. I attended Chaminade High School (a Bellamine equivalent) where I graduated 1st in my class of 352. I received my undergraduate education at Yale University graduating magna cum laude with a B.A. and honors in Literature. I then matriculated to New York University where I received my M.D. degree and was elected in my junior year to Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. I completed my internship and residency in Internal Medicine at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and then returned to Yale University where I completed a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases.

I have been a resident of the district and practicing medicine at El Camino Hospital since 1984. In addition, my daughter was delivered and I have been a patient at ECH.

I have served on the Board of Directors since 1992 and currently serve as its President. During my first term I was the only one of five Board members who voted against the transfer of ECH's assets (which totaled over 250 million dollars) to a newly formed not-for-profit corporation. Subsequently, I fought tirelessly for the return of the hospital and its assets to community control, which occurred in 1996.

I am completing my second term with a national search to replace our retiring CEO with an individual who can lead ECH into the next century and surmount the obstacles facing all hospitals in our area......seismic upgrades to the hospital tower, an aging and dwindling hospital, medical and nursing staff, and the need for new programs and revenue enhancement.

I am extremely knowledgeable about hospital politics and operations. Most of all, I have the common sense to make practical use of these qualities and the integrity to see that it benefits the community which I serve.
