Commercial Revitalization

By Stan Bogosian

Candidate for Council Member; City of Saratoga

This information is provided by the candidate
This city council has taken the first steps in a long-lasting revitalization of our commercial districts.
As a lifelong Saratoga resident, I am proud to have taken a leadership role in starting the long overdue revitalization of our commercial districts. During the past year and a half, the city council has perhaps done more than any other council in recent memory to help restore economic health to our commercial areas. We have begun a program to "seed" businesses in the Village that will serve Saratogans and promote a healthy economic climate to attract other businesses. This year we convened meetings of business owners and neighbors in the Gateway area of Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road to develop a plan to renovate the area with funds made available through the CALTRANS dedication to the road to Saratoga. And we are in the process of hiring an economic development coordinator to facilitate economic revitalization in all commercially zoned districts in Saratoga. We anticipate that the individual hired will bring together property owners, business owners, and neighbors to make it work.

This city council is uniquely qualified to bring about revitalization of our commercial districts. For the first time in a decade, the members of the council understand and practice the basic concept that effective governing means balancing the interests of both neighbors and property owners who wish to develop their land. There is no preconceived policy that one party's rights predominate. I believe that the Council's handling of development applications in residential neighborhoods in a fair and professional manner has established a climate in which lasting commercial revitalization stands the greatest chance of success.
