RETURN CHECKS & Balances to City Government

By William J. Wagener

Candidate for Member of City Council; City of Santa Maria

This information is provided by the candidate
City Manager should not be able to fire Department Heads. The "good Old boys" have surrendered YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL rights in making the elected City Clerk an underling to the City Manager. We must reverse this. The last elected City Clerk Resigned and moved to Texas. Does that tell you something?
On the Federal and State Level, You have checks and balances to keep power mongers from destroying your RIGHTS.

You have Legislature EQUAL to Judiciary equal to Executive (President or Governor)

On local level you have City MAyor made mostly irrelavant by power surrendered to the City Manager by ordinance.

So the City Mayor, whoever he is, and council no longer have to vote on tough issues of Department heads.

How can the ELECTED CLERK be Under a hired City Manager or administrator? THAT is wrong. That is Soviet Style authoritarianism. No wonder the CLERK which we last elected has resigned.

Should the city manager be able to fire the elected city clerk from her position on STAFF, forcing her to live on $75.oo a month without her staff (Dep. Head) salary & benefits?

Should the Chief of Police or FIRE be subject to summary firing at the whim of a NON elected single member of our community, be it City Manager or anyone else, without a full thrashing in open view in front of the cameras & public before the City Council?

Well, I say NO. THIS IS WRONG. This is a city Dictator the "Good old boys" have created. We only have to look back to Adolf Hitler, King George III, or Emperor Nero to see the danger of concentrated power.

I stand virtually alone as the INDEPENDANT non-partisan candidate (1 of 8) who would reverse this. I am not a democrat nor a Republican, I am an Independant running for a NON-partisan city council race.

I want checks and balances in city government. I want fairness in treatment to all our residents, and I want to end the arrogant waste of taxpayers money by the self described "good old boys".

Vote William Wagener for City Council.
