Shorter Bullet Statements
ˇStrongly opposed to State Water: In 1978 and 1991, ratepayers in our three adjoining districts voted to decline State Water. Several thoughtful citizens read "the fine print" in the proposal, and advised us not to rise to the bait. Subsequent events have vindicated their wisdom and our refusal. If elected, I will diligently continue this policy. I feel that subsequent development should be kept within the limits of our existing water resources.

ˇStrong Scientific Background: As a Physician, I am aware of the importance of safe, reliable water to our Overall health. The study of natural history is a life-long interest of mine. I am also a part-time biology & health science instructor at Allan Hancock College and Chapman University. I will bring these talents to the better understanding of our water resources.

ˇInvolvement in District Issues: I have been attending VVCSD Board meetings on a regular basis. I am actively studying the current and past issues facing our district.

. I favor the Board holding its regular meetings in the evening to allow more residents the option of attending them without having to miss work.

.The question of having the district soften the entire water supply has been raised. Of the 80% of users that responded to a recent survey, 60% indicated that they currently soften their household water. I feel that there should be a careful evaluation of options, costs, benefits, potential problems, and need before deciding. There are some advantages and many possible disadvantages.

ˇOther Background: I grew up in Paso Robles, have lived in Vandenberg Village since 1994, and in California nearly all of my life. In addition to being a retired USAF Surgeon, I am a Viet Nam Era Veteran, was deployed in support of Desert Storm, and have first hand memories of WWII and the Korean Conflict (Not a forgotten war for me!). I hold the rank of Eagle Scout, was elected to the Order of the Arrow, and have served in Boy Scout adult leadership positions, including Neighborhood Commissioner.
