Develop a Master Plan for the New District

By James "Jim" Stewart

Candidate for Director; Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District; Division 7

This information is provided by the candidate
We must develop and implement this plan to make this merger of two different districts a cohesive well run district
Both Sacramento County and American River Fire Districts are a combination of what in 1967 amounted to 23 distinct Fire Districts in the County of Sacramento.

As a result, we are now faced with fire stations that need to be relocated, and/or rebuilt. Some of these stations date back to the late 1940's and later. Some are in dire need of remodeling, bringing them up to todays standards. I feel that as current Board Members we have shown prudent concern by adopting a budget that allows for some capital improvements.

This will not happen overnight, but I think if we develop a 10 year plan for capital improvements we can remedy much of the problems we currently face with regard to station relocation. This will be accomplished by eliminating current overlaps that exists between two stations that may be too close together, and conversely, some stations may have response gaps that need to be shortened.
