Smart Voter Full Biography for James "Jim" Stewart

Candidate for
Director; Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District; Division 7

This information is provided by the candidate

I am a current member of the American River Fire Protection District board and am running for re-election to the new board for the newly merged Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.

I am a 35 year fire service veteran, starting in 1960 as a volunteer for the Arcade Fire Dist. and in 1965 as a full time fire-fighter with the Carmichael Fire District. I became a member of the newly merged American River District in 1982, serving as a Captain for the last twenty years, retiring in 1994.

I was elected to the Fire Board of the American River Fire Dist. in 1998 for a 4 year term, and my main concern was the merging of the Sacramento County Fire dist. and the American River Fire Dist. I am extremely proud to have been a part of bringing this historic merger to fruition.

I am 60 years old, married and father of three, and have a degree in Fire Science from Los Rios Community College.
