Continue the Excellence at Saddleback and Irvine Valley Colleges

By John S. Williams

Candidate for Governing Board Member; South Orange County Community College District; Trustee Area 7

This information is provided by the candidate
The Colleges of the South Orange County Community College District rank in top 10% in transfers to universities and rated 1st in recent state audit of college districts for putting tax dollars in the classrooms.
A recent California State audit, as highlighted in a front section story in the Los Angeles Times on October 13, ranked the South Orange County Community College District top in audited districts for putting taxpayer dollars directly into classrooms. SOCCCD currently allocates 54.28% of tax dollars directly to our classrooms, not including counseling and library services which directly benefit our students as well.

Since 1997, the Board of Trustees has reorganized the adminstrative structure at Saddleback and Irvine Valley Colleges. Prior to the reorganization, for example, Saddleback College had more deans that UC Irvine! Adminsistrative savings now amount to more than $2 million annually. The Board of Trustees also reduced taxpayer paid release time for faculty from over $2.5 million just four years ago to just $200,000 now (programs such as nursing require this time).

Total taxpayer savings so far: Since 1997 @ $4.8 million per year, total savings is $14.4 million and growing!
