Candidate Statement

By Lynn Hamtil

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Garden Grove Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
This is my official candidate statement
Students must be prepared for responsible citizenship and life-long learning. They require a solid foundation in phonics, reading, English language mastery, basic arithmetic and higher order mathematics.

Each student must be challenged to reach maximum learning potential through class size reduction in primary grades, increased English requirements, computer skills needed in today's technological society, provision for GATE and special education students, advanced curricular classes, including fine arts, and participation in extracurricular activities.

I support: basic learning skills; a safe learning environment, respect for others and self-discipline; acknowledging diversity while emphasizing unity; smaller class size to facilitate mastery of reading and mathematics; employment of highest quality teachers; demand for efficiency in all operations; participation from parents, citizens and employees in decision making processes.

My background includes: President and Vice-president Board of Education; California School Boards; Orange County School Boards; Little League, officer; YMCA Indian Maidens; Girls and Boys Club board; President, Garden Grove PTA Council, Morningside and Bolsa Grande PTA's; PTA Honorary Service Award, two Continuing Service Awards; district resident thirty-five years.

Public education was established for our common good. Our children deserve and democracy depends on a strong educational system. Please support me with your vote and continued trust.
