This election is about education. The community college is the gateway to higher education for many students for whom education beyond high school would not be possible. It is the vehicle for providing the training and retraining for the workers who contribute to the economic vitality of our community. There are three fundamental issues which underlie the basis for my candidacy: 1) Access - will there be room for all the area students who wish to pursue higher education in the next decade?; 2) Workforce Development - will the college district have the capacity to train and retrain the local workforce in the skills required by the emerging economy?; and 3) Partnership - (the colleges can't do it alone) - will the colleges have the support necessary to forge the kinds of partnerships with other schools, businesses, trade associations, and governmental agencies necessary to improve the preparation of students for a lifetime? I am running to address these issues and help provide the important quality educational resources which all of Contra Costa County needs.

I am committed to assuring that the CCCC College system anticipates and delivers the high quality education our community needs and deserves. CCCC Colleges needs to provide anyone who wants to learn, a legitimate opportunity to gain functional job skills, achieve academic success, and attain individual fulfillment through lifelong learning.

By establishing and operating a successful small business, I have learned the importance of setting clear goals, adopting high standards, supporting the dedicated professionals who make organizations excel, establishing prudent budgets, and delivering quality services.

CCCC Colleges need proven educational leadership that is responsive to community needs. I believe my educational training and experience, community service, and business background will allow me to make a positive contribution as a member of the Board.
