Candidate for Director; San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District; District 5

This information is provided by the candidate
My years of service in local government have been beneficial during my term on the BART Board. One of my proudest accomplishments was serving as chairperson of the Strategic Planning Committee, where we developed BART's first-ever comprehensive plan. The Stretegic Plan is a 20-year plan to be reviewed annually, addressing BART's focus on the present and future, including infrastructure, finances, future growth, transit-oriented development, the people of BART, and most importantly, how best to serve our customers.

With increasing congestion on our roads and over 10% growth in ridership on BART in the past year, we need to be proactive in developing, maintianing, and marketing a transit system that adequately addresses the needs of the people.

I worked to facilitate the opening of the Dublin-Pleasanton station, and I am currently spearheading a public-private partnership for the construction of a West Dublin-Pleasanton station and transit-oriented developement of a financially responsible extension to Livermore.

Finally, Ease of access to and the usability of the system must continue to be the highest priorities fo BART's Governing Board
