Our battles to preserve our unique resources have been worth the effort.
The city has a responsibility to build a balanced community--homes, jobs, shopping, amenities, and open space. Throughout my years of service, I have been committed to achieving that balance. I have fought to defend our General Plan whenever a developer who was greedy attempted to build homes where our open space or our future jobs should be. I am happy to see those battles were worth the effort. We have succeeded in preventing buildings from covering the hills, and we have added more parks, including a new 20-acre park on Palm Avenue.

I have been a consistent advocate for building a city based on sound planning concepts and preservation of our unique resources.

  • Founding member, Citizens Committee to Complete the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge
  • Board member, Tri-City Ecology
  • Organizer, referendum to restore the Historical Architectural Review Board
  • Member, Bay Conservation and Development Commission

My job as Mayor is to see that what we do is done well--to the benefit of our residents, both present and future.
