Financial Responsibilty

By Cindy Carpenter

Candidate for Clerk of Courts; County of Butler

This information is provided by the candidate
Butler County residents can now be confident in the sound financial management of the Clerk's office.
An important function of the Title Division is to collect sales tax on behalf of the Ohio Department of Taxation when a motor vehicle or watercraft title is issued.  The Butler County Clerk of Courts, serving Ohio's eighth largest county, contributes over  30 million dollars to the state treasury each year.

The title transaction fees we receive are allocated to the operations of our four conveniently located title offices.  This funding process provides for the self-sufficiency of the Title Division while also generating revenue to the County General Fund.

In the Legal Division, millions of dollars are deposited each year to be held by the Court of Common Pleas.  The financial transactions of the Court are often complicated and can include processing bond monies, receiving and distributing court costs.
