What I Believe

By Edward G. Colbert

Candidate for Republican Party County Central Committee; Supervisorial District 4

This information is provided by the candidate
I am a Reagan conservative who believes in the principle of subsidiarity (local control). The Republican Party should be a "big tent" including people of all colors and diverse views who believe in freedom, seeking their own solutions without government interference unless the latter is absolutely required for the public good.

Abortion is an extremely divisive issue. Can we at least agree that late term abortion is anathema?

I agree with the AMA's position on assisted suicide i.e. that it would be extremely detrimental to the doctor-patient relationship. In addition, with adequate physician education, adequate pain control is available at our end time.

I believe that marriage is a union between heterosexuals. Some type of legal contract could certainly be worked out for long term gay relationships.

I am for second amendment rights, but certainly recognize the necessity of removing assault weapons from the streets. Having an educational course for gun usage should also be considered.
