Steve Herfert is a 40 year resident of the San Gabriel Valley. He was the second of five children born to Bob and Elaine Herfert. He learned family values and service to others from his parents. He received his education through public schools, West Covina Unified, Mt. San Antonio College, and Cal Poly Pomona.

From his early days of playing in West Covina Recreation programs, Steve developed a desire to help people enjoy their idle time. He became a role model and Recreation Leader on the playgrounds of West Covina. He realized it was smarter to build children than to repair adults.

In 1990, Steve was elected to the West Covina City Council. He was subsequently re-elected in 1994 and 1999. In 1995 he was elected Mayor of West Covina. As a Mayor and Counclmember, Steve has taken leadership roles in all facets of government, particularly public safety, environmental issues, recreation, and senior citizens.

Steve is employed by Southern California Edison and currently works in the New Construction Department as a Scientist. Prior to his current position, he was a Union Steward for IBEW Local 47. Steve was a proud union member from 1980 to 1990. He made many friends in his years with Local 47 and credits union members for his initial election to the West Covina City Council.

Steve is married to his lovely wife Jan, and they have two children Jennifer and Melissa. He has one grandaughter, Alexa.
