Taxation

By Craig L. DeLue

Candidate for United States Representative; District 14

This information is provided by the candidate
"Collecting more taxes than is absolutely necessary is legalized robbery." -Calvin Coolidge, United States President
"The power to tax is the power to destroy." -John Marshall, Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court

The government has an obligation to the public not to collect more taxes than is absolutely necessary to fund its legitimate interests. Unfortunately, the government sees no boundaries on its interests and too many of our representatives seem to view taxpayer revenue as their money to spend as they wish. There is clearly a feeling among many in Washington that they know how to spend your money better than you do.

The notion that government can make better choices for individuals than individuals can make for themselves is ludicrous.

In addition to taking more of your money than it needs, the government has setup a tax system that punishes those who work hard to get ahead. The American tax system is in need of substantial reform.

I propose the elimination of:

  • Income Taxes on both Individuals and Businesses
  • Capital Gain Taxes
  • Death Taxes

Furthermore, I propose to replace the revenue generated from these taxes with a National Sales Tax. Individuals who consume the most will pay the most.
