ED FOGLIA is a candidate for the Open Space Authority for District One. The District is comprised of portions of San Jose: Almaden Valley, Blossom Valley, Coyote Valley and Evergreen; Morgan Hill, South County except the city of Gilroy and the eastern foothills of the Mount Hamilton Range.

ED FOGLIA is over fifty-year resident of Santa Clara County who is a lifelong teacher. He attended Campbell Grammar and Campbell High School. Ed attended San Jose City College and earned a BA. and MA from San Jose State University. He taught in the Cambrian School District for twenty-five years and is a former four-term president of the California Teachers Association.

Some of ED FOGLIA's civic work within the community includes · State Budget Project: Citizens working together to gain local control in expenditure of our taxes through sound fiscal policy and accountability. · West Valley Citizens Air Watch: Group of citizens who are concerned about the quality of air we breathe and stopped Kaiser Cement Co. attempts to burn tires for energy purposes. · The Role Model Program: Brings successful adults into classrooms to encourage positive choices and educational achievements to middle school students. · Working Partners: A coalition of seniors, environmentalists, unions, educators and small businesses to improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods, cities and county. · San Jose Public Library Master Plan Task Force: The City Commitment to implement Measure E, with cost effective long-range planning to meet the life long learning needs our entire community. · West San Jose Kiwanis Club: A service organization who wants to improve the communities in that they live and work. Community projects include Our City Forests, Special Olympics, Christmas Giving Tree, Scholarships, Second Harvest Food Bank, Loaves & Fishes, Senior Games and K-Bell Track Meet.

In addition ED FOGLIA's record includes: · Leading the fight for stable school funding, without raising taxes, through Proposition 98. Ed's vision of using surplus funds to lower class size made it possible for California schools to have less children, per classroom, in grades K-3. · Serving on the Santa Clara County Steering Committee for Strategic Vision and Planning as well as the Strategic Vision Roundtable for children and families. · Actively working with the Villas of Almaden Homeowners Association in helping to oversee and maintain our 55 acres of open space and wildlife. · Establishing teacher training programs for "at risk" children throughout the state. · Advocating for the protection of environmental and public health standards.

ED FOGLIA strongly believes that we must take today to protect our environment so we have clean water to drink and healthy air to breathe. As proven leader, Ed, can bring people together to find common ground so we can preserve our open space for everyone to appreciate and enjoy for generations to come. That's why Board of Supervisors, Chair Don Gage, Blanca Alvarado, Jim Beall, Pete McHugh and Joe Simitian; Mayors Dennis Kennedy of Morgan Hill and Henry Mayanan of Milpitas; San Jose City Council Members Charlotte Powers and Cindy Chavez support because they know Ed Foglia will get the job done. Once we lose our open space it is lost forever.
