I have lived in San Jose for 22 years and in District 2 for 12 years. I have a daughter with a degree in Sociology from UC Santa Cruz and another daughter who was just accepted into San Jose State into the Occupational Therapy program.

I have worked at Valley Medical Center since 1982 in the Finance Department. I am the only candidate with 18 years of experience in budget and finance. I will fight for our fair share of resources.

I have 20 years of state and federal legislative experience. I have been successful in coordinating state-wide efforts to pass consumer protection legislation on HMO abuse, to improve education, and for funding of local health services.

This expertise is key if we are to tap effectively into federal and state transportation and housing funding.

I have been succesful in doing these things because I am able to bring many different people together to reach agreement. My expertise is in cutting red tape. I get things done by going outside the bureaucratic process and being direct and proactive.

I have been a school board member for 11 years. On the school board I have fought for greater accountability, good fiscal management, and for implementing programs that can help our children have access to the jobs of the future.

I also have been an advisor to Joint Venture Silicon Valley's "Bridging the Digital Divide" Proyect. This proyect looks to match children living in our community to actual, real jobs and will ensure they receive the training necessary to have access to those jobs.

The biggest challange for us as a community is to ensure our children are well prepared for the future.
