Charles V. "Chuck" Smith 38,369 votes 60.2%

  • Occupation: Incumbent
  • Saved taxpayers money by adopting the 5-year Strategic Financial Plan, which restored our credit and improved bond rating.
  • Worked with Washington and Sacramento to bring more of our tax dollars back home
  • Adopted a balanced budget without cutting resources
  • Acquired added funding for Santa Ana River Project to lower or eliminate flood insurance
  • Held County-wide Summit on Aging for senior advocates, programs and service providers
  • Met with leaders of Hispanic Community to prepare for meeting with the President and U.S. counties with largest Hispanic populations
Priorities:
  • Expand anti-gang and crime prevention programs
  • Keep taxes low, attract new business and create jobs. The El Toro International Airport is the cornerstone of future economic prosperity.
  • Improve health care services and support welfare reform.
Eleazar G. Elizondo 24,973 votes 39.2%
  • Occupation: Educator
  • 4th and 5th grade teacher
  • Current Chair of the Community Redevelopment and Housing Commission of the City of Santa Ana
  • Graduate of Mater Dei High School and Chapman University
  • Former aid to Senator Barbara Boxer
  • Former aid to Assemblyman Lou Correa
  • Former Civil Rights Analyst for the Department of Justice
Priorities:
  • To use the $912 million dollars from the national tobacco settlement for quality health care
  • Job training and sustained economic growth
  • Work to create accessible housing opportunities
