Hello, my name is Jim Stadler and I am asking for your vote March 7 for Torrance City Council.

Last year, I sold my interest in a company I started from scratch back in 1976. Stadler & Jensen Moving was a highly successful moving and storage firm, and the sale of my company has enabled me to have the time to dedicate to other things.

Like most of you, I have spent my life as a political observer, rather than an active participant. Raising a family, maintaining a home, and running a business has taken all the time I have. But since I sold my business I find that I have the time to give back to my community.

Three of my five children are still at home and attend Torrance Schools. One of my sons is a PFC in the US Army and is stationed in Germany. My wife, Debbie, is a vocal music teacher for Torrance Unified. I grew up in this area and graduated from South High in 1970.

I am a past president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and former recipient of the Outstanding Young Man of the Year Award. I am presently an assistant Scoutmaster for my son's Boy Scout Troop. We all want safe streets and safe neighborhoods. I am a strong supporter of the Torrance Police Department and particularly the Torrance Fire Department. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I was recently transported to the hospital by our Paramedics, so I know first hand how important and comforting that department can be.

I am a strong supporter of our schools. I will work with the school district to build consensus and neutralize the rivalry between the district and the city. I will work for a consolidation of school and city services. After all, the children of Torrance don't belong to the school district; they belong to all of us.

The role of a Councilmember is to establish goals, build consensus, set direction and monitor progress. Because of my business background I can bring to the Council the kind of experience necessary to do just that!

A Councilmember also needs to be accountable. I don't pretend to have all the answers to all the challenges facing Torrance. But as your Councilmember, I will work full time to find those answers, and I will be accountable to you.

This March you are being asked to elect three new members to the Torrance City Council. You want to elect people with diverse backgrounds. You want to elect independent minded people who have the ability to work cooperatively. Because of my background I am just as comfortable talking to business executives as I am to crews working around our city. I am able to communicate across the board.

This is a good time for me to mention that I am not taking money from special interests that may affect my opinions when in office. Funding for this campaign is coming from me personally and individuals like you. I am neither a member of the political elite nor their captive.

I am a life long Torrance resident, I have a strong business background, I know how to make things happen and I have the time to do the job.

On March 7th, please cast your vote for Jim Stadler, Torrance City Council.
