EMPLOYMENT

Deputy District Attorney 1/99-present Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office Criminal Racketeering and Money Laundering Task Force.

Inspector General 7/96-1/99 Los Angeles Police Commission Audited and investigated the Los Angeles Police Department's handling of complaints of misconduct by police officers and civilian employees; analyzed personnel complaints and use of force investigations; made policy recommendations to the Police Commission; served as Police Commission's independent investigator; conducted investigations into excessive force, retaliation, and corruption; directed the activities of the staff of the Office of the Inspector General.

Deputy District Attorney 1/85-6/96 Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office Prosecuted capital murder cases resulting in two separate defendants receiving the death penalty; while assigned to the Special Investigations Division (1993-1996) investigated officer-involved shootings and other allegations of misconduct against police officers including theft, excessive force, planting of evidence, illegal entry, and perjury; investigated and tried political corruption cases against public officials.

Criminal Defense Attorney 1977-1984 Private Practice; Sacramento and Los Angeles Defended mainly felonies including a series of alleged Mexican Mafia executions as well as Angelo Buono in the "Hillside Strangler" case involving the deaths of ten women.

Director, State-wide Patients' Rights Office 1976-1977 California Department of Health, Sacramento Investigated and enforced rights of patients and residents in all state-licensed facilities; conducted state-wide investigations into deaths of patients in state hospitals.
