Introduction and plans

By Gerald L. "Jerry" Heap

Candidate for Mayor; City of Bakersfield

  • I have found a home in this city, and I see this community growing rapidly. I feel there are many opportunities to assist with this growth. The downtown redevelopment project should continue and expand to encompass Old Town Bakersfield and areas in East Bakersfield. We need to address the need for new schools. Bakersfield needs an East/West freeway. I would like to help achieve these goals.
  • I believe the mayor needs to promote economic strength and growth in Bakersfield. The mayor should be the city's primary booster, able to represent Bakersfield in a positive light throughout the city as well as statewide, nationally and worldwide.
  • I would like to pursue city/county collaboration in the area of education. I would like to see an atmosphere of cooperation and sharing of resources between all of our local School Districts including the County Superintendent, Bakersfield City Schools, and Kern High School District. Our children's education is an important endeavor. Parents, Teachers, and Students need every opportunity available to provide the best possible education.
  • I believe all Bakersfield residents should be represented. The mayor's office should present any issue that a resident feels has not been addressed by their council representative.
