Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Betsy Gentry

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Piedmont Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate

I want to continue to improve Piedmont's traditions of achievement and caring for all students.

First, in an era of continuing inadequate state funding, we need to improve and stabilize funding for the district.

Second, I want to maintain and improve Piedmont's commitment to excellent education. We need to work with the state's new educational reforms that are flooding all districts with new programs and new mandates. We need to focus on the goals of our own strategic plan with work in the areas of academic standards and assessments, greater opportunities for all students, and improving communication with parents and the community.

Finally, we must continue to provide a nurturing environment for learning for all students. This means a commitment to valuing each student as an individual and teaching values of acceptance and respect for all.

Community and parent support make this district special. I want to use my experience to make our schools even better.
