How do I feel about the management of water in Lake Del Valle

By James Edward "Jim" Deline

Candidate for Member, Board of Directors; Alameda County Flood Control and Water Conservation District; Zone 7

I feel that the water level in Lake Del Valle is lowered too much in the Fall. This is done, of course, in anticipation of heavy Winter rains. We got lucky this year, with the late, heavy rains. However, if that had not happened, we would be facing a decrease in our supply of surface drinking water---not to mention the negative impact upon boating, fishing, and swimming that occurs at the Lake.

I understand the need for flood control, but let's face it, when is the last time you read about any serious flooding in Livermore, Pleasanton, or Dublin? It's not like we are living alongside the Russian River.

I believe that we can strike a better balance between the concern for flood control, and the need for the drinking water and recreation value that Lake Del Valle provides.

If elected to the Board of Directors, I will seek that balance.
