Questions & Answers

1. What are your views regarding the need for public transportation in your community to promote access to employment throughout the region?

I am a strong proponent of a local transit service. While oncouncil, I have supported appropriations for the Norwood City Bus Shuttle. Also, I am in favor of expanding our local bus service to 6-Day a Week operation, funds permitting. The senior program utilizes the bus as well. I believe providing transportation for the elderly is an important part of our local transit system.

2. Would you be in favor of county-wide campaign finance regulations that would provide for public matching funds, limit campaign contributions and provide for more disclosure? State your opinions on these ideas; whether you would support or oppose them.

I oppose an additional set of county-wide finance regulations to provide for public matching funds, limit campaign contributions and provide for more disclosure. I believe that state regulations already in place are more than sufficient.

3. What are the benefits/detriments to land use planning prior to zoning decisions?

Land use planning is a vital part of long term development. Preliminary planning is a necessary initial step for utilizing each parcel of property within the city to it's maximum beneficial potential. Consistency in zoning of adjoining tracts is very important for the city's citizens. That is why zoning should be decided upon after land use planning has taken place. This avoids issues such as spot zoning, which is disruptive to community life.
