Candidates Answer Questions on the Issues

See below for questions on transportation, campaign finance, planning

Click on a name for other candidate information.

1. What are your views regarding the need for public transportation in your community to promote access to employment throughout the region?

Answer from Becky Stephens:

This is a much-needed resource to retain and attract business. Without adequate accessibility to all areas of transportation, the business community faces increased transportation costs and the loss of business if customers have difficulty accessing the business. This can result in lost revenues to a community if companies move because of transportation needs.

Answer from Virmorgan L. Ziegler:

If the reail system proposed by OKI can ever materialize, I believe it would be a definite asset.

2. Would you be in favor of county-wide campaign finance regulations that would provide for public matching funds, limit campaign contributions and provide for more disclosure? State your opinions on these ideas; whether you would support or oppose them.

Answer from Becky Stephens:

There is a definite need for accountability of campaign resources. At the County, State, and Federal levels large industries, such as insurance, or large companies can greatly impact the decision making process.

Answer from Virmorgan L. Ziegler:

This topic is hardly applicable to village campaigns our size.

3. What are the benefits/detriments to land use planning prior to zoning decisions?

Answer from Becky Stephens:

Planning land use prior to zoning allows developers to present projects that are complimentary to the surrounding environment. However, it may be determined that the land is incompatible for the preferred use.

Answer from Virmorgan L. Ziegler:

It is pretty much like ths old saying "How are you going to get there if you do not know which wasy you are going". Our community has had zoning ever since it was incorporated which was a great guide for us.
