1. What are your views regarding the need for public transportation in your community to promote access to employment throughout the region?

Answer from Dave Bednar:

There currently is Metro bus service to and from Loveland. Loveland currently has major traffic congestion into and out of the city. Although widening of Loveland-Madeira Road should ease the congestion, additional public transportation i.e. light rail, additional bus routes, or "Park and Ride" would also be an asset.

Answer from Robert H. Weisgerber:

Public transportation is a regional issue not just a local community one. Travel today is already an issue because public transportation is behind the power curve. Rail transportation and the public education on the issue is of great importance.

Answer from Donna M Lajcak:

Look for an area for ride/share lot within city limits close to Route 275. Develop a public space for an existing bus stop.

Answer from Heather S. Russell:

Loveland is part of the bustling Northeast Corridor. Therefore anything which makes commuting easier, makes coming to work in Loveland easier, or would be attractive to companies relocating here is great. Public transportation means less traffic, pollution and cost.

Answer from David E. Bair:

First of all public transportation is behind in the tri-state area compared to other larger metropolitan areas. I would have to evaluate a regional plan and determine how Loveland would fit into the proposed plan. We are basically landlocked and the small amount of parking we now have is at a premium.

2. Would you be in favor of county-wide campaign finance regulations that would provide for public matching funds, limit campaign contributions and provide for more disclosure? State your opinions on these ideas; whether you would support or oppose them.

Answer from Dave Bednar:

I support county-wide campaign finance regulations as a way of equalizing the campaigns. Too often the major political parties support candidates even in non-partisan elections, which allows for unfair monetary advantages to some.

Answer from Heather S. Russell:

I would support these ideas regarding campaign finance regulations. These regulations would eliminate unqualified people who win elections merely because they have access to a lot of money. A limit on contributions would make elected officials have to prove their merit rather than their monetary worth.

Answer from Robert H. Weisgerber:

Oppose I am for smaller government and less bureaucracy. Imposing these (again) would cost the taxpayer both in matching dollars and enforcement/tracking.

Answer from David E. Bair:

Oppose. This would increase the bureaucratic establishment, thus causing an even greater burden on tax dollars.

3. What are the benefits/detriments to land use planning prior to zoning decisions?

Answer from Dave Bednar:

The benefit of land use planning prior to zoning decisions allows citizens to have input for land usage.

Answer from Robert H. Weisgerber:

Land use planning sets the tone for the community. Zoning without a land use plan is not as effective in setting the community vision into action. The land use plan needs continual updating to stay current with community needs and expectations.

Answer from Heather S. Russell:

I am in favor of pro-active planning strategies which will preserve the community character of Loveland, and quality of life in Loveland. Measured development is better than uncontrolled patchwork development, which patchwork development is not aesthetically pleasing.

Answer from David E. Bair:

Land use plans gives the community a vision. Zoning then implements its regulations when actions from the plan begin to develop. As the community grows and changes the land use plan should continually be updated.
