Mayor Jim Friedman is a native Californian and a resident of Ventura for the past 9 1/2 years. Jim was seated on the Ventura City Council for his first term on December 4, 1995. He was elected Mayor on December 1, 1997 and is currently serving in that capacity.

Mayor Friedman is also Chairman of the County Library Commission which oversees libraries all over the County.

Jim is a charter member of the Ventura Beach Lions Club and is the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, the highest honor given by Lions International.

Earning both a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and a Chartered Financial Consultant(ChFC) degree, Jim has been self employed as an Insurance and Financial Planner for the past 21 years. He earned his Bachelors of Art degree in Political Science from Cal State University, Northridge.

Jim moved to Ventura in 1990 and is married to Kelli, a native Venturan, who teaches 3rd grade at E.P. Foster Elementary School.
