Attract quality teaching staff.

By Henry L. Petrino

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Sylvan Union School District

This information is provided by the candidate
We must do everything in our power to ensure top quality teachers in our classrooms.
Class size reduction was a long time in coming to our lower grades. It has proven to be a huge step in the right direction for our children. It has, unfortunately, created a problem. There are not enough quality teachers to meet the demand.

Sylvan has always, since it's creation in the late 1940's, been able to boast a quality staff delivering an exceptional program. Unfortunately, we are slipping in our ability to attract new top quality teachers. Our salary schedule does not compare favorably to neighboring districts. While educatinal program and quality facilites are certainly critical components of a successful school district, the teaching staff is everything. Our main priority is what happens in the classroom. Let's be sure it is staffed by the cream of the crop.
