Political Philosophy for Carolyn U. Killeen

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Stanislaus Union School District

This information is provided by the candidate

"As your Governing Board Trustee for the past 4 years, I have advocated for class-size reduction, the continued selection of only the most qualified teachers, and the preservation of a self-contained classroom GATE program. I have also encouraged an open dialogue between parents and educators with communication being paramount to a successful educational experience for our children.

The next four years will bring difficult questions to our District regarding unprecedented growth, the need for an additional school, new curriculum challenges with higher state standards, and an increae in mandated services with limited budgetary dollars. An open mind, a reasonable and responsive approach to problem solving, and valuable past experience on the Board will allow me to make responsible decisions in the best interest of our children.

I am proud of our five elementary schools and Prescott Junior High School. Our teachers have prepared our students extremely well for high school and beyond. With recent tragic events in schools across the country, such as Columbine, concern for safety in our schools has understandably been heightened. The safety of our children has been and will continue to be a top priority for our administration.

I will continue to listen to parents' concerns while helping our teachers and administrators provide the highest quality of education possible for our children in a safe and enriching environment. It is important to emphasize the positives in our schools, while working hard to improve and eliminate the negatives.

And please remember on November 2nd, character, integrity, and experience do count!"
