My academic training includes an Ed. D. (doctorate) in educational policy and administration in 1993 and a M.Ed. in agricultural/occupational education in 1989 at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. I earned a B. S. in agriculture at the University of Arizona in 1979 and an A. A. S. in agriculture at The Ohio State University in 1975.

I worked from 1971 to 1976 in agricultural-related
employment in Ohio and began my teaching career as an instructor of agricultural education and alternative education at William Monroe High School in Stanardsville, Virginia from 1979 to 1987. I was employed as an Admissions Counselor, Director of Admissions and Assistant Director of the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts from 1987 to 1992. I pioneered the use of portfolios for project evaluation while directing a three-year grant funded by U. S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) from February 1992 until July 1994 at the University of Massachusetts. My most current experience as an external evaluator for OSERS sponsored grants are for Project Enable (1994-97), housed at Fitchburg State College and the National Transition Alliance (1995-2000), co-funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, School to Work Office and housed at the University of Illinois.
I have taught plant sciences and environmental horticulture
at MJC since 1994. I have represented my division on numerous committees and served on the Academic Senate at since1994, The faculty at-large elected me in 1997 to serve as President from 2000-2002. A general list of my involvement and affiliations during the past three years is attached to this letter for your review.
If elected, I would contribute a broad and in-depth
knowledge of public education education, maintain a firm commitment to providing quality educational opportunities for all students, and represent and advocate for the community's children, youth, and adults in a balanced, professional manner. I will continue to be a steadfast advocate for encouraging diversity within our educational system through fair hiring practices, new staff recruitment, curriculum design, and student services.
Aside from being a lifelong student, I have been involved
in education as a teacher, counselor, researcher, or administrator for the past twenty years. In these roles, I have tried to meet the needs of the individual student within the framework of the educational institution by becoming involved as fully as possible. I believe that I will also become an effective member of the OJUSD Board of Trustees if elected.
My experience and interest in agricultural, occupational,
and regular education, career development, educational research, educational administration, evaluation, and developmental education services have prepared me to serve the Oakdale community in an educational leadership capacity. Thank you for considering me as a candidate for the OJUSD Board of Trustees, District One.
