Youth Activities

By Louie Arrollo

Candidate for Mayor; City of Ceres

This information is provided by the candidate
Additional activities for our youth are a major need in Ceres.. The construction of a youth center and a large sports center are projects we should actively pursue.
I believe the City of Ceres seriously lacks in providing youth with activities. It's a known fact that by providing a place where youths can recreate reduces crime and channels youthful energy into positive activities. Currently there is a move underway by a group, including trhe city, to seek funding for a youth center. I believe we should vigorously pursue the building of a youth center and plan for its corresponding activities by implementing a recreation department, using the resources of all those interested social and private agencies. Recent research into youth crime indicates the high crime time is several hours after school when kids are out and parents are still at work. The City of Ceres has a high volume of commuters who travel out of town early and return late. This allows for unsupervised activities by their children. By offering a place for kids to go is only a positive benefit to all of us. A youth center is high on my priority list of things to do.

We also need to actively seek funds to build a large sports complex to meet the need of the large number of Ceres youth involved in sports.
