Parent Concerns and Involvement

By Allene G. Sieling

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Sequoia Union High School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Parents as first teachers of their children should be welcomed, fully informed, and supported.
Parents are the first teachers of their children. As such they must be given every support in that endeavor. The Sequoia Union High School District has a support project for parents called Target Success which has chapters on each campus.

Target Success provides parent information nights and seminars, coordinates the activities of the various parent groups, supervises the activities of the home study centers, and has an award night to acknowledge and celebrate the help given by the individual parents and community members.

I believe that this activity is a step toward better communication between parents and the district, but I also believe that we need to work continuously to improve upon it in order to help parents as they attempt to guide their children through the process.
