Upgrades in Social Services available in SSF are underway
Over the past four years, we on City Council have taken a pro-active position in developing a fuller package of services avaiable to all in our City.

The following provides a sample of what has taken place since 1995 in South San Francisco:

  • The Childrens' Center has been relocated and serves over 120 children as result of a cooperative effort of the City, County, School District and State. It was slated to close and has been saved.

  • We have developed and opened the Community Learning Center at Baden and Linden, and are retrofitting a permanent location on the Spruce School campus. This facility offers a full range of services for children and their parents, including computer training, parenting classes, English language services, homework assistance and the like.

  • Families on Track beacon school has opened with City participation on the Parkway Heights Middle School campus, and offers a multiplicity of services to the entire family.

  • Spruce and Grand Health Center will open within the next couple of weeks, again providing health services in conjunction with San Mateo County and non-profit agencies.

  • Upgrades in child care and underway, along with City partial funding of elementary school counselors and expansion of city-operated child care facilities.

  • Healthy Cities Symposium is an on-going activity, along with Peninsula Partnership activities, School to Career and City-funded activities with the Regional Occupation Program (focusing on horticulture and marketing)

  • These are some of the activities from the heavy menu of social services enhancements on which the City has embarked since 1995.
