By Olivia G. Martinez

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Sequoia Union High School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Over 29 years of experience in public school management, budgets, curriculum, planning and parent-community involvement.
We need to restore public trust and confidence in our high schools. I pledge to work towards higher student academic perfomance and more resources in the classroom where teachers teach and students learn. Students must be better prepared for the world of work and higher education.

I have experience as a School Psychologist, Administrator, Instruction and Student Services, Middle School Principal, Associate Superintendent of Schools and as Vice President of Canada College.

I am committed to bringing a new vision and determination to the Sequoia Union high School District. We must make our high schools once again the first choice of parents and their children.

This will be accomplished by working as a member of the leadership team in the District and by setting educational priorities that are directly related to performance in the classroom. Also by carefully evaluating existing curriculum, programs and services in relation to test scores and student performance, we can begin to assess instructional effectiveness. By conducting a curriculum audit to determine whether or not teaching and learning is consistent with curriculum standards, a plan for instructional improvement can be generated.

Communication with parents and the greater public must become a higher priority so that all the resources of our wonderful, rich and diverse community can be brought to bear on the task of improving our schools.
