Candidate for Governing Board Member; Belmont - Redwood Shores School District

This information is provided by the candidate
As a Board Member, I have actively contributed to the district's achievements. I have been an active volunteer in our schools. As an attorney and a member Legislative Committee of the San Mateo County School Boards' Assn., I understand the "big picture" - the role of our district in the larger scheme of California public education and have worked to influence our legislature on statewide policy issues that impact our district.
  • I am married to Dennis Roseman, an engineer with Lockheed Martin. We have lived in Belmont for 14 years. Our two children, Kate (a 6th grader at Ralston) and Matt (a freshman at Carlmont High School), have attended schools in Belmont since Kindergarten.

  • As a member of the School Board, I have served on several district committees, including music and foreign language and on the Legislative Committee for San Mateo County School Boards Association.

  • As a member of the Legislative Committee, I have communicated with state legislators and met with our two state representatives to discuss both our district's particular needs and the impact of the state's actions on our children and our schools.

  • I have been instrumental in helping the district to move in a positive direction in our relationship with the City of Belmont. As an attorney, I know the cost (in money, time and energy) of an adversarial relationship.

  • I have been an active volunteer in our schools since Matthew was in kindergarten at Central. Among other activities, I served on the executive board at Central school PTA for years, including two stints as 1st V.P. in charge of fundraising activities, parent education chair, and newsletter editor.

  • I have served on the Site Councils for both Ralston Middle School and Central Elementary School.

  • As a parent, I worked to save the district instrumental music program when reduced revenues caused the Board to look at cuts some years ago.

  • I worked with many others to help pass the Measure B bond initiative.

  • I have worked in the computer lab at Central and have volunteered in the classroom.

  • Professionally, for the past 17 years I been employed as senior staff attorney for a justice on the state Court of Appeal for the First Appellate District, in San Francisco.

  • I am a member of several professional associations, including the San Mateo County Bar Association and have served on the Board of Governors of California Women Lawyers and on the California State Bar Association Committee on the Appellate Courts.

  • I received my BA from Pitzer College in Claremont, California and my JD in 1978 from Stanford Law School.
