Housing and Urban Planning

By John C. Strawn

Candidate for Council Member; City of Santa Barbara

This information is provided by the candidate
The City of Santa Barbara has a responsibility as the metropolitan center of the County to ensure that all discussion and planning is regional in its scope.
I support the creative development of low-cost and affordable housing; planning which accommodates alternative modes of transportation, such as electric shuttles which can link neighborhoods to the city and the expanded use of primary bicycle lanes; the production of low-cost live/work space for artists; and the revitalization of senior housing in the city core.

I support a Living Wage. Many City employees cannot afford to live in Santa Barbara.

I believe we need a moratorium on any tourist-related development of the waterfront and harbor areas. We need to study the impact on the environment, housing cost & availability, car & bicyle traffic and nearby small businesses.
