Political Philosophy for Richard B. Oakley

Candidate for
Council Member; Proposed City of Rancho Santa Margarita

This information is provided by the candidate

I believe that the group of citizens who developed the cityhood boundaries did a good job. Thank you very much for your efforts.

Yet, much like building a building, you have one group to build the structure and another to finish the interiors.

I am ready to be a member of that finishing council.

It is now time to turn to the citizens of Rancho Santa Margarita and their needs. When elected, I plan to spend at least one Saturday morning every month at one of the four major shopping areas in Rancho, having a cup of coffee with the citizens I represent, talking to them, listening to their needs and desires, and generally bring government TO the people.

Local government should be straightforward. You listen to the people you represent, you examine the facts presented, and you make a decision based on the best interests of the citizens you represent and the facts presented and discovered. No special interest groups, no "political action committees", no "soft money"--just doing the right thing for the people you represent.

Please let me show you how goverment is supposed to work.
