Issues important to me:

Issues important to me:

Quality of Life in San Anselmo: The real issue for the next century will be Quality of Life in all its manifestations. If we know what we like, if we can describe the attributes that make San Anselmo a great place to live and work, we can take the right steps to preserve and enhance that quality of life. I envision a San Anselmo Quality of Life Committee which works with all of us to improve San Anselmo's future.

Dynamic Downtown: In order to support a dynamic downtown, we need to remember to do business within our own community. A strong business community supports a strong social community. I propose a "San Anselmo - Just Once A Week" program. We should all think "San Anselmo - Just one ____ a week!" Fill in the blank yourself - bagel, book, downtown stroll, restaurant outing, shopping trip, bicycle ride. Be part of the life of our Town at least once a week.

Continual Community-Building: We must include all age groups in our Town activities - seniors, families, young people, kids, and our schools, which is one reason my son, Evan, is my campaign manager.

Traffic Treaties: We actually sign an agreement that states "I won't drive fast in your neighborhood, you won't drive fast in mine". One thing we all need is more respect for each other and civility behind the wheel.

Open Space: Something you may not even notice until it's gone! What a beautiful place we live in and how easily destroyed. As a hiker and outdoor person, I believe that the preservation and enhancement of open space is critical.

More Downtown Bathrooms: Something simple yet noticeable by its absence when you need it. We have only one set of public bathrooms in our town. Very few merchants have facilities for the public. Our basic quality of life would be enhanced if there were free, clean bathrooms available in our downtown area.

Police as Community Members: Kids love to see and talk to police officers. Remember when you knew all your local police officers and they were a recognized, respected part of the community? I think a couple of electric bicycle police patrol officers would remind drivers of their responsibilities, be role models for safe cycling, and interact more with all of us, including our young people.

Support Our Town Staff: Our Town staff do an excellent job, often without recognition. The professional capabilities and positive morale of our staff are the foundation for our Town's success. We must support them effectively, provide the tools they need to do their jobs efficiently, and recognize them for their contributions.

Restore Our Creek: The creek is a wonderful amenity, both for property owners and for the rest of us, especially our beautiful Creek Park. I support a public-private partnership for creek restoration and a strong educational program which, I believe, can serve to build a stronger sense of community in San Anselmo. I'd like to see a celebration of the Creek as part of San Anselmo 2000 and a special permanent exhibit about the Creek in Creek Park. How about some beautiful murals by local artists on the blank walls of buildings facing the creek?
