Today's Dreams Create the Future

By Gregory D. "Greg" Stone

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Las Virgenes Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
In order to assess our District, we must measure ourselves against the future our students face, not yesterday's education standards.
Each student has unique dreams for his or her future. These individual dreams add up to the larger dreams we share as a community, a state, a nation, and Mankind. The education we deliver today can make these dreams come true tomorrow. We must measure our success, not in test scores, but in how well we prepare our students to achieve their personal dreams.

The future our students face will be challenging -- with unimaginable technological advances in communications, space exploration, medicine, and computing. Along with this vastly different tecnological world will come challenges in social policy, government, and business. We must measure the success of our current education system against this future.

In such a diverse and quick-changing tomorrow, individual dreams are more important than ever before. We must be certain that we do not trample personal dreams with a system that ignores the individual student in order to achieve bureaucratic or administrative ease. Our on-site delivery must allow for more diversity, not less. With the advent of new technologies we can offer more and more individualized instruction and lessen our dependency on formulaic "factory" modes of delivery.

The Las Virgenes District enjoys a wealth of motivated students and supportive parents. We can become the model for education in California. It is time we step forward and lead the way with inspired leadership. It is time we have a Board that responds to innovation on the part of students and teachers. It is time we have a Board that will insure District staff facilitate diversity, innovation, and excitement.

As a Board Member, I will work hard to make sure we respond to the dreams of individual students.
