Partnership for Excellence cheating Students

By Bill Jennings

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Pasadena Area Community College District; Trustee Area 4

This information is provided by the candidate
The Partnership for Excellence is another effort by the PCC Trustees and Administration to inflate grades for money
I find it extremely disturbing to see Pasadena City College cheapening its reputation of scholastic achievement by lowering its academic excellence to grab more money under the guise of the "Partnership for Excellence". The "Partnership for Excellence" is simply another "bait and switch" being perpetrated on the taxpayer and cheating the students.

What kind of college does everyone want for their sons and daughters? Is it a college that obtains funds through dishonesty and the lack of integrity by enforcing grade inflation on its academic staff? I believe we all want the best education and knowledge we can obtain for our children, our country, and ourselves.

As Trustee No. 4, I will bring the extensive industry knowledge needed by industry and our country for the future. During my 35-year industrial career, I have experienced the rapid changes occurring in electronics, shipbuilding, cost engineering, publishing, architecture, geology, nuclear research, power generation, and rocket engine manufacturing.

In my current position with Boeing as Project Advisor, LEAN Enterprise and Integration, I am responsible for making significant improvements in manufacturing processes by personally training personnel and eliminating waste.

I feel so strongly about my mission that I feel the free world is dependent upon the success of the education of our youth and our adults for the next millennium.

Pasadena City College is facing numerous problems. One being the oncoming "baby boomers" where it is estimated that the student population will rise from 24,000 to 37,000. The College's challenge to handle this dramatic increase by producing students that can become productive and knowledgeable employees in a global economy.

I feel my present experience in a global company has prepared me to handle global challenges. I have surmounted formidable challenges during my working career in the global market place where "life-long learning" is now the mainstay of employment.

My wife, Beatrice, and I are extremely active in supporting the Community of Pasadena. It is through my interests and volunteer activities, primarily within Pasadena, that I have recently been awarded the Citizen of the Year Award by Boeing Corporation.

We are often seen at the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens. In addition, we are active at various fundraising events and hospitals representing the San Gabriel Wellness Community, the American Cancer Society and attending meetings for the San Gabriel Alliance for the Mentally Ill. Once a month we hold a cancer support group meeting in our home.

I spend one or two hours every other night analyzing various legislative bills affecting the Mentally ill and personally Lobby State Legislators on behalf of the mentally ill. I was recently appointed to the County of Los Angeles Reimbursement Committee for the Mentally Ill where sources of funds for support of the mentally ill, the incarcerated and the homeless are considered.

I also have a strong interest in the local history and culture of Pasadena. I am a Friend of the Pasadena Playhouse, a Friend of the Pasadena Symphony, and support the Pasadena Heritage Society.

My interests are even where I live having been President, Secretary and at present Treasurer of their Homeowner's Association. During my terms our condominium won the prestigious Most Beautiful Condominium in Pasadena Award.

I feel my mission is to improve Pasadena Area Community College District by bringing honesty and integrity to building a world-class educational system that adheres to the laws, regulations, and agreements that have been set for it. To accomplish this task I call for the vote of all Pasadenians of all cultures.
