Impartial Analysis from the County Counsel
If approved by two-thirds of the electors voting for this measure, Peninsula Union Elementary School District general obligation bonds would be issued and sold. Money from the sale of the bonds is to be used to repair, modernize and construct school facilities and remove safety hazards at the Peninsula Union Elementary School District. Specifically, the money will be used to modernize schools for computer technology, including a new library/media center; remove asbestos, repair roofs and improve earthquake safety; improve playgrounds; upgrade security, fire and safety systems; including outdoor lighting; build a meeting room for community use.

The Peninsula Union Elementary School District would incur an indebtedness of $1,080,000 at an interest rate not to exceed eight percent (8%), such interest to be payable annually or semi-annually, the number of years the whole or any part of the principal amount shall be payable, not to exceed twenty five (25) years from the date of the bonds or the date of any series thereof.

Arguments For Measure L
We urge you to vote YES on Measure L.

Measure L provides more than $1,000,000.00 in urgently needed bond funds for the Peninsula Elementary School. Our school needs to be safe, healthy and secure for all students and the communty.

A yes on Measure L will stop our school's deterioration. It will provide for:

  • upgrading the technological capabilities of the school to enhance education
  • refurbishing deteriorating classroom
  • replacing inadequate electrical systems
  • repairing restrooms and deteriorating roofs
  • making the necessary structural repairs to insure our buildings are earthquake safe.

This is the first capital campaign ever. The district, in the past, has been able to fund the repairs and maintenance of the school without asking the voters for support. The district has cut costs, streamlined and has exhausted state funding source.

Let's show our students that we care about the quality of their education. A YES vote on Measure L would confirm that our community does indeed have the best interest of the children at heart.
