Political Philosophy for "Sherm" Fishman

Candidate for
Council Member; City of Pleasant Hill

This information is provided by the candidate

City government under its code, is taking powers reserved for the citizenry. The usurpation of rights reserved for the individual is illustrated in the Pleasant Hill Newsletter OUTLOOK, August/September 1999 issue.

"An Eye on Code Enforcement" describes the City's right to confiscate property in your front yard and back yard and levy $50 fines for violation of the code.

SHERM says:

Code Section 5-3.1 has to be removed by the City Council to restore these rights to the individual. Who will do this if "Sherm" is not on the City Council? ____________________________________________________________

If you start a home business (multiple level marketing) you are required to obtain a HOME OCCUPATION PERMIT for $25. You are also required to obtain a BUSINESS LICENSE paying a tax based on your income. The minimum tax is $18 per year.

SHERM says:

The City Code has to be amended to remove the requirement for a HOME OCCUPATION PERMIT until you actually have a business that makes money. I think until you make $125 per week you don't have a business and you shouldn't need a HOME OCCUPATION PERMIT. Who will do this if "Sherm" is not on the City Council? ____________________________________________________________

SHERM says:

The City Code has to be amended to remove the requirement for a BUSINESS LICENSE until you actually have a business that earns at least $125 per week. If you get to that level the business will probably keep on growing and you can afford the City Hall fees. Who will do this if "Sherm" is not on the City Council? ____________________________________________________________

SHERM says:

Under the City Code professionals doing business here are required to pay a business tax. This pertains to MD's, DMD's, CPA's, and Attorneys. The income to the City is small and this tax should be eliminated to relieve these professionals of this paperwork burden. The tax income lost to the City will be replaced by sales tax income from the new downtown. Who will do this if "Sherm" is not on the City Council?
