PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

October 1994 to present: Harbor Master, Antioch Marina, Antioch, California. Responsible for the day to day operation of the Antioch Municipal Marina, (a Division of the City of Antioch Public Works Department), the surrounding parks, piers, and leaseholds. Plans, organizes, schedules, coordinates, and directs the operation and maintenance of the Antioch Marina. Inspects the facilities, responds to the needs of the various marina users and the public, and develops marketing and other advertising programs, promoting the marina and marina related facilities. Works with lessees, responding to changing needs and direction of operations. Arranges for berthing and berth rental to the boating public. Supervises, trains and evaluates personnel, develops and directs the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards. Prepares and administers Division budget. Researches and writes proposals applying for various grants and loans. Appears before the City Council, Commissions and committees, and makes recommendations to the Deputy Director of Public Works, City Manager, and the City Council.

Dec. 1986 - October 1994: Harbormaster, (Marina Supervisor), Berkeley Municipal Marina, Berkeley, California. Responsible for the day to day operation of the 1000 berth Municipal Marina, the surrounding parks, piers, and leaseholds. Planned, coordinated, and directed the operation of the Berkeley Marina. Supervised eight personnel. Developed and directed the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards. Prepared budgets and budgetary estimates of staff, equipment and materials. Researched and wrote proposals applying for various grants and loans. Appeared before Commissions and committees, and made recommendations to the Parks/Marina Manager, the Public Works Director, City Manager, and the City Council.

Jan. 1975 - Dec. 1986: Marina Manager, (Dockmaster), Marina City Club, Marina del Rey, CA. Responsibility encompassed all phases of Marina management, from preparing fiscal budgets and long range planning to preparing reports and handling customer relations for the 340 boat slip recreational Marina. Besides supervising five employees, work also included contracting for maintenance, overseeing Marina repairs, keeping records, and managing the Marina City Club Yacht & Ship Brokerage. Co-owner with spouse of John Cruger-Hansen Associates Inc. Marine repair, boat repair business, 1980 - 1986.

Nov. 1973 - Jan. 1975: Dock Foreman/Assistant Dockmaster, Marina City Club, Marina del Rey, CA. Work entailed maintaining and repairing the 340 boat slip Marina, repairing boats, overseeing subcontractors, billing for repairs, and assisting the Dockmaster.

July 1971 - Nov. 1973: General Manager, 106 unfurnished apartment units in five buildings located in various areas of Santa Monica, CA. Work involved all phases of property management, including hiring and training of personnel, customer relations, and accounts receivable.

Mar. 1968 - July 1971: Experimental and development model builder, McDonnell-Douglas Astronautics Division, Santa Monica, CA. Developed and built test models for the DC-9 and DC-10 commercial aircraft, and several confidential and secret government projects. Held a secret clearance.

Sept. 1967 - Mar.1968: Master boat builder, Pacific Yachts, Marina del Rey, CA. Built and fitted a 42' Trimaran sailboat.

Examples are "Front-line Manager, Managing difficult people, The Diversified Workforce, Windows95/98, WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works, Quatro Pro, Microsoft Excel, Lotus Works, First Mate Marina Billing Program, The Marina Billing Program by Computer Consultants, HTE FUND$ Municipal Accounting, WordPerfect Office network, Quicken, and numerous other computer courses. CPR, First Aid, HAZWOPER, etc."

1979, 1980, 1981: Santa Monica College, Santa Monica, CA. Adult Education Classes: Courses consisted of Industrial Supervision, Accounting, Public Speaking, and Creative Selling.

1978 & 1979: Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. Continuing Education: Industrial Economics Division - Basic Marina Management Courses. (Sea Grant courses.)

1963 - 1967: Boat builder apprentice, Rudkobing, Denmark. Graduated with Masters Certificate in Boat Building. Licensed as a Master Boat Builder by the Danish State Department of Commerce, Copenhagen, Denmark in 1967.

1959 - 1963: Attended Copenhagen Polytechnic and Copenhagen Academic Colleges, Copenhagen Denmark. Completed Four years of study. Courses included Mathematics, Electrical and Mechanical Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Languages, and World History.

1959: Graduated from High School, Hellerup School, Copenhagen, Denmark.

PERSONAL DATA Born December 8, 1943, in Copenhagen, Denmark. Fluent in English and Danish. Health excellent. U.S. citizenship. Married, three children, 12, 14 and 17.

John Cruger-Hansen's WCCUSD involvement:

1995 # 1997 Member of WCCUSD Ad Hoc Study Committee on Middle Schools. Attended more than 20 committee meetings over two years. Recommended re-establishing 6th period and building middle school in Richmond.

1996 Member of the WCCUSD School Boundaries Committee. Made recommendation for the "Neighborhood School" concept.

1998 - present Member of the WCCUSD Citizens Advisory Commission on School Facilities. Advised on selection of Richmond Middle School Architecht and school layout.

1994 - present Youth Educator Program co-facilitator/trainer with wife for El Cerrito High School Youth Educator Program. Training Juniors and Seniors to go to Portola Middle School and teach a Drug and Alcohol Prevention program. Received the "People who make a difference" award by the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors and the Substance Abuse Advisory Board.

1989 - 1994 Parent Educator Program. Taught Drug/Peer Pressure Awareness program in 5th grades at Madera Elementary School.

1993 -1995 Chair, Madera Elementary School Direct Appeal Fundraiser.

1995 - 1996 Treasurer, Madera Elementary School 5th Grade Camp.

1995 - present Portola Middle School PTA Treasurer.

1997 Volunteered at Madera Elementary School for 5 days before school started, making repairs to and cleaning classrooms. Washed windows inside and out in all 12 classrooms.

1999 Took on Portola Middle PTA Membership task when nobody volunteered to do membership.

1998 Volunteered helping paint El Cerrito High School.

1998 Volunteered at Mira Vista Elementary School, painting walls and ceiling in a classroom, installed wiring for the internet in 5 classrooms and connected one classroom to the internet.
