SUZANNE ANGELI FOR PLEASANT HILL CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE POSITION STATEMENT

AIRPORT

Use and regulation of Buchanan Field undergoes constant examination and review by Contra Costa County, with input from representatives from affected communities such as Pleasant Hill. Until master plan revisions currently underway are brought from their current draft stage to a final report with concrete changes, comment is premature.

I look forward to production of the undoubtedly sensitive final report. I eagerly await the opportunity to provide critical leadership on proposals that may be beneficial or detrimental to our residents living along the airport borders and in the path of the facilities' steadily increasing number of private and commercial
flights.

Again, the Pleasant Hill City Council must work hand in hand with nearby communities, respectfully welcoming their views and concerns as they do ours.

LIBRARY I strongly support the 1/8 cent sales tax for the libraries proposed by the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors. Our county library system needs financial help in the form of a long-term infusion of funds to help buy print and electronic materials, as well as money to pay for personnel to keep our libraries open to Pleasant Hill residents and others throughout the County. Our children deserve, and need, better libraries so they can become better citizens. I sincerely hope the Contra Costa Taxpayers Association comes around to support this important measure, which will be on the ballot in the year 2000.

DOWNTOWN I believe we should be getting the downtown plan back on tract in the wake of recent news about Mann Theaters filing for bankruptcy. The Current City Council has put the city in an untenable position, one in which stores do not pay the city rent until the theater complex, the anchor of the new downtown, opens and begins showing movies.
